Scott has performed, recorded, and toured with artists including: John Mayer, John Scofield, Warren Haynes, Nels Cline, Anders Osborne, Phil Lesh, Shooter Jennings, LaLa Brooks (of the world famous Crystals), & many others from a variety of genres. He’s performed extensively all over the United States, Europe, Japan, and Australia and has performed and recorded with projects of all styles, and is a first call player in many artists, producers, & engineers phone books. Appearances include The Montreux Jazz Festival (Switzerland), The Newport Folk Festival, The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, as well as famous and historic venues worldwide; Carnegie Hall, Ancient Belgique (Brussels, Belgium), Jazz at Lincoln Center, The Blue Note New York, The Ryman Auditorium, Red Rocks Amphitheater, and Jazz at Lincoln Center.

Scott is a full time member of the critically acclaimed, increasingly popular Joe Russo’s Almost Dead. His various part time projects include the Gypsy Jazz influenced The Showdown Kids, and WOLF! (Royal Potato Family Records), an instrumental guitar trio whose music has been featured on the hit television series Z-Nation. In addition, Scott has made various appearances on national television, including appearances on Good Day New York and a featured duet with Nicole Atkins on the season 1 finale of Cameron Crowe’s Showtime series ‘Roadies.’

His overall approach is aimed at serving the integrity of the song & group while expressing his unique voice through his guitar. His style combines a lyrical, melodic sound and sensibility that shows a deep understanding of the instrument’s history, while at the same time has an edginess that is unmistakably Metzger’s own.

At the core of musical creativity is the simple, unending urge for exploration and discovery. It’s being able to hold onto your childlike wonder and eternal curiosity, all of which lies at the start of any new chapter of melodic space to inhabit. For singer/keyboardist Joe May, it’s being able to balance a deep passion for record producing and live music improvisation, both encompassing the magic of one’s own natural talents and fearlessness to experiment — onstage and in the studio.

Though most folks recognize May from his work behind the keys for rising Charlotte, North Carolina, jam/funk outfit Pluto Gang, May’s debut solo album, “No Party By That Name,” conjures the deep, fundamental influences he regards with awe and perspective. Long Strange Deal brings the jams! Period! LSD has gathered some of the best Dead players from the Charlotte area, including members of bands such as Other People, Liquid Sound, Brokedown Palace, Whiskey Prophets, MFT, The Grand Ole Uproar, to form a tribute that is reminiscent of some of our favorite eras of the Grateful Dead and JGB all mixed into one show!! Three lead players fill up the room swapping solos of collective styles ranging from some of the best eras of the Dead with Mike on guitar and vocals pouring his late 60’s thru the Mid-70’s super clean, bluesy tones into the songs, Cito Giulini with Jerry licks for days and the tones from late 70’s through the 80’s, with great harmony, backing, and lead vocals to boot, Russ Betenbaugh on Keys and vocals gives a nod to all of the great keyboard players that played beside Jerry whether it’s Brent, Nicky Hopkins, or Melvins Seals; and a solid rhythm section including “Thunder” Dan Ihle dropping Phil lines, Two drummers including names such as Maz Sietsma, John Spurrier, Logan Wilkins, Steve Cornacchia, and Josh Dorsey! Bethany Sietsma, on backing vocals, adds to the JGB sound and is a bonus on the Dead set too!

The band improvises structurally but always stays true to the song they’re performing. Normally a show is two sets with occasionally a separate first set of JGB and then a long GD set, or mostly JGB and GD tunes mixed into two sets. Either style show is truly a good time and mostly an upbeat setlist with plenty of songs for getting down to, but also a couple of their heart wrenching, soul jerking Jerry ballads from songs such as China Doll, Wharf Rat, and So many Roads. This is a band you don’t want to miss hitting stages in theaters and festivals in 2022.

LSD is not just a tribute to the GD but to the music Jerry made including the acoustic, grass side of Jerry; capable of providing a tribute to Old in the Way, JGAB, Pizza Tapes, and also The GD Reckoning Tribute.
